Ontario to Impose 25% Export Tax on Power to Three US States (2)

Ontario will put a 25% surcharge on power it sends to 1.5 million homes in Minnesota, Michigan and New York in response to US President Donald Trump’s tariffs, Premier Doug Ford said.

“If these tariffs persist or if the Trump administration moves forward with any additional tariffs, Ontario will apply a 25% surcharge on the electricity we export,” Ford told the governorsof those states in a letter. “I won’t hesitate to increase this surcharge or, if necessary, shut the electricity off completely.”
