New Trump Tariff Threat Risks Undoing China Truce: Supply Lines

President Donald Trump returned to his favorite geopolitical tool for leverage with his broadest tariff threat in months, saying he’s immediately imposing a 25% import tax on goods from countries that do business with Iran.

China, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey are Iran’s biggest trading partners and oil accounts for much of those flows. China is the third-biggest source of US merchandise imports.

Trump’s social-media post late Monday drew a quick rebuke from Beijing and, some analysts say, jeopardizes a fragile trade truce forged a few months ago between the world’s largest economies.
