LNG Boom Drives Surge in Asian Trading of US Natural Gas Futures

Asia-originated trading of benchmark US natural gas has more than doubled over the past year as a boom for American LNG pushes the market further onto the international stage.

Trading volume for Henry Hub futures that originated in Asia increased by 121% in the past 12 months, according to exchange operator CME Group Inc. Asia-originated options volumes jumped 117% in the period.

The surge in Asia trading underscores the growing importance of US liquefied natural gas for global energy supplies.
