Kenya Nominates Amina Mohamed to Be WTO Director-General

Kenya nominates Mohamed, who is the nation’s sports, culture and heritage minister, to lead the World Trade Organization, the country’s permanent mission to the United Nations says in an letter to the WTO.

  • Mohamed, a lawyer, was an assistant secretary-general of the UN and deputy director of the UN Environment Programme from 2011 to 2013. She was also the country’s permanent secretary in the Ministry of Justice from 2008 to 2011, and Kenya’s ambassador to the WTO from 2000 to 2006, chairing the general council in 2005 and the Dispute Settlement Body
