Hungary Says US Exempted Gas Payments From Gazprombank Sanctions

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said the US granted an exemption for gas payments from its recently imposed sanctions on Gazprombank, in a relief to eastern European nations that are still heavily reliant on Russian energy.

Countries led by Hungary had scrambled in recent weeks to find a workaround to the sanctions, which not only would’ve barred payments via Gazprombank for gas but also would have prevented countries like Bulgaria from receiving transit fees.
