German Industry Production Rises for First Time Since March (1)

German industrial production rose more than expected in July, offering some hope that the country’s key sector may be stabilizing and soon overcome its years-long slump.

Output increased 1.3% from the previous month, driven by machinery and equipment, Destatis said Monday. That’s the first gain since March and above the 1% median estimate in a Bloomberg survey.

The prior month’s decline was revised to just 0.1%, from an initially reported 1.9%, according to the statistics office, which added that this was primarily due to “corrected data that were subsequently reported by a large enterprise in the automotive ...
