France Calls US Tariffs Unjustified, Seeks to Finish Trade Pact

French Finance Minister Roland Lescure called a new American tariff proposal unjustified, but said he hopes the move would lead to the European Union and US finally implementing their trade accord.

The US this week proposed tariffs of at least 10% on imports from countries related to those nations’ use of goods produced with forced labor. A Tuesday report from the office of the US Trade Representative said the EU had failed to enforce a prohibition on importing products made with forced labor.
