The European Union is challenging President Donald Trump’s patience on trade, risking higher tariffs than previously negotiated as it debates if and when to approve a deal the two sides hammered out seven months ago.

Though the US administration’s foreign policy focus is currently on the US and Israel’s war with Iran that began on Saturday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will have an opportunity to discuss transatlantic commerce with the American president during a visit to the White House on Tuesday.
