Economists Split Over Peru Interest Rate Meeting: Decision Guide

Economists are split almost 50-50 over whether Peru will cut interest rates that are already among the lowest in emerging markets.

Eight of 15 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg forecast that the central bank will cut its key rate to 4.25% on Thursday, while seven expect no change.

Monetary easing is back on the table after inflation unexpectedly plunged to a seven-year low of 1.1% in August, close to the lower bound of the target range. Meanwhile, the sol strengthened to its highest level since 2020 on Wednesday, further easing pressure on prices.
