Duties on Stearic, Industrial Fatty Acids Continued

Mexico plans to continue a decade-old policy of compensatory tariffs for stearic acid exported from the U.S. by Vantage Oleochemicals and for certain industrial fatty acids, the Economy Ministry announced, as it closed two antidumping investigations.

The Economy Ministry plans to continue its tariff rates of 4.15 percent for Vantage for stearic acid—a key ingredient in making detergents, soaps and cosmetics.

“For the period analyzed, there exists sufficient evidence to show that the elimination of compensatory tariffs would lead to a repetition of discriminatory price practices for U.S. exports of stearic acid to Mexico,” the Economy Ministry wrote in the ...
