Customs Extends Air Cargo Advance-Screening Program

A pilot program for air cargo advance screening (ACAS) has been extended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection for another year, according to a July 27 Federal Register notice (80 Fed. Reg, 44,360).

Customs also reopened the application period for another 90 days.

The voluntary pilot program allows participants to submit a portion of the required 19 C.F.R. 122.48a data elements (ACAS data) prior to loading cargo on aircraft scheduled to fly to, or through, the U.S.

Customs uses the data—air waybill number, cargo description, shipper name and address, and consignee name and address—to target high-risk air cargo.
