Chinese Stocks Gain on Hopes Sweeping Trade Deal Is in Sight

Chinese stocks rose on Monday, on signs that the world’s two largest economies are nearing a comprehensive trade deal.

The onshore benchmark CSI 300 Index ended the day 1.2% higher, while a gauge of Hong Kong-listed Chinese firms closed up 1.1%. GigaDevice Semiconductor Inc. and Baidu Inc. led the pack.

The gains came after top trade negotiators for the US and China said on Sunday they came to terms on a range of contentious points that included export controls, fentanyl and shipping levies.
