A Chinese exporter lost its challenge to hefty U.S. anti-subsidy duties on hardwood plywood, a federal court ruled April 12.
The Commerce Department assigned Shandong Dongfang Bayley Wood Co. a countervailing duty rate of 194.90 percent. The U.S. Court of International Trade rejected Bayley’s challenge to this duty rate.
Hardwood plywood is used by the construction industry to produce wall panels, kitchen cabinets, furniture, and wood flooring. Hardwood plywood imports from China were valued at an estimated $1.12 billion in 2016, before these duties were put in place, according to the Commerce Department.
