Carney Urges Secondary Sanctions on Russia to Be Imposed Quickly

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he wants to see western allies impose secondary sanctions on Russia quickly in order to dramatically ramp up pressure on President Vladimir Putin.

Carney said he’s personally advocated their use in discussions with allies, and sees it as “possible” that the Trump administration and European countries will eventually move forward on it.

“I will say that the US has raised this issue on several occasions as a possibility,” Carney said Monday during an event at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.
