Canadians Back Carney’s Deficit and Defense Plans, Poll Shows

A slight majority of Canadians believe Prime Minister Mark Carney’s plan to run deeper deficits will grow the economy, accepting his argument that more spending is needed to emerge stronger from the US trade war.

A poll by Nanos Research Group for Bloomberg News showed 53% of Canadians agreed the additional deficit expenditures will foster economic growth, while 37% disagreed and 10% were unsure. Carney is expected to unveil his first budget in October.
