Canada Imposing Penalties on eManifest Violations

Canada on Jan. 11 will start imposing fines of up to C$8,000 (US$5,700) for violations of its eManifest program for the use of electronic manifests for rail and truck shipments to the U.S., the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) confirmed Jan. 5.

The government took a phased-in approach to mandatory compliance with eManifest to ease the transition for industry, and the final phase for highway and rail carriers will start Jan. 11 with application of administrative monetary penalties for noncompliance, the agency told Bloomberg BNA in an e-mailed statement.
