ADT Bid to Block Imports of Vivint Systems to Be Probed at ITC

The International Trade Commission said it began an investigation based on a patent-infringement complaint from ADT that seeks to block imports of security monitoring and automation control panels made by rival Vivint Smart Home.

  • ADT claims Vivint infringes two patents that expire in 2032 for communications between a security system and monitoring system
  • Vivint had argued in response to complaint that ITC shouldn’t investigate certain claims of both patents because the complaint failed to meet commission’s pleading requirements about indirect infringement
