Zurich Unit Wins $222 Million Wrongful Death Insurance Row

A Zurich Insurance Group AG unit won a dispute over paying for a $222 million wrongful death judgment against a construction services contractor after the Tenth Circuit said the insurer isn’t on the hook.

The contractor, Team Industrial Services Inc., isn’t entitled to receive coverage from Zurich American Insurance Co. because it never enrolled in the insurance program of Westar Energy Inc., Zurich’s policyholder, the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit said on Wednesday, upholding a lower court order.
