Zillow Beats Lloyd’s in Voice Privacy Settlement Insurance Row

Zillow Group Inc. beat Lloyd’s of London underwriters in an insurance dispute after the California appeals court rejected Lloyd’s bid to recover the $5 million it paid on behalf of a policyholder—online communications provider Twilio Inc.—in a class action alleging Twilio illegally recorded Zillow users’ voice and text messages.

Lloyd’s can’t force Zillow and Handy Technologies Inc., an online marketplace for residential cleaning services, to reimburse the insurance payment because Twilio never satisfied an indemnity agreement, the Court of Appeal of the State of California said in an unpublished decision Wednesday.
