Tropical Storm Fernand Seen as No Threat to US or Canada

Tropical Storm Fernand formed in the open Atlantic Ocean hundreds of miles from Bermuda and is forecast to miss land, the US National Hurricane Center said on Saturday.

Fernand has top winds of 40 miles (64 kilometers) per hour and was about 405 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, the center said in a 5 p.m. New York time advisory. The storm is currently drifting north near 15 mph and its winds are expected to peak at 70 mph, which would keep it below hurricane strength.
