Textron, Liberty Mutual Units Sued Over Environmental Cleanup

Hartford Insurance Group Inc. units and other carriers sued a Textron Inc. subsidiary and its primary insurer over coverage limits and payment obligations for environmental cleanup at contaminated sites in Indiana and Massachusetts.

The primary carrier—Employers Insurance Co. of Wausau, a Liberty Mutual Group unit—incorrectly claims its policies are exhausted and that the umbrella insurers must now provide coverage for McCord Corp.'s environmental liabilities, the insurer plaintiffs said in their complaint Tuesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

McCord faces regulatory demands for investigation and cleanup of hazardous substances at the sites.
