Salem Media Group Sues Insurer to Cover Defamation Settlement

Conservative broadcasting company Salem Media Group sued its insurer, seeking to recoup legal defense and settlement costs from a defamation lawsuit over the conspiracy film “2000 Mules.”

The documentary, which was distributed by Salem, made unfounded claims of widespread and coordinated voter fraud in the US 2020 election that later led Salem to settle a defamation lawsuit.

Salem held media liability policies from Chubb Ltd. and Atlantic Specialty Insurance Co. Atlantic Specialty refused to cover legal costs arising from Andrews’ suit due to a policy provision excluding coverage for what happened before the start of the policy period.
