Quartz Surface Maker Hit With Insurer Lawsuit Over Silica Cases

An Israeli manufacturer of quartz kitchen countertops and other surfaces was sued by a Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. unit seeking to limit how much it has to pay for underlying litigation from workers alleging silica-related illnesses.

The complaint, filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, centers on insurance policies Ironshore Specialty Insurance Co. issued to the US subsidiary of Caesarstone Ltd. from 2011 to 2017.

Any covered “bodily injury” would be limited to one policy period, the underlying suits constitute a single occurrence subject to a $1 million limit, and Ironshore has no ...
