QBE Insurance Unit Wins Default Judgment Against Escrow Service

A QBE Insurance Group Ltd. unit is off the hook for a Washington state escrow service provider’s defense costs in litigation alleging it failed to transfer funds, a federal court ruled.

The US District Court for the Western District of Washington granted default judgment to QBE Specialty Insurance Co. Tuesday after Escrow Services of Washington LLC failed to respond to the lawsuit.

QBE sued Escrow Services in 2022, seeking to rescind its professional liability policy and avoid paying defense costs in the underlying suit because the company failed to pay the premium.
