P&G Hit With Hartford Insurance Suit Over Contamination Cases

Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. insurance units are barred from paying legal defense costs for litigation against Procter & Gamble Co. over environmental contamination in New York and Michigan, the insurers said in a new lawsuit.

The policies at issue include umbrella and excess liability policies issued to P&G from 1977 to 1986 by First State Insurance Co., Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co., New England Insurance Co., and Twin City Fire Insurance Co.

The policies don’t cover liabilities related to lawsuits filed against P&G over groundwater contamination in New York or a claim by the Environmental Protection Agency concerning a ...
