New York School District Sues Insurers Over Sexual Abuse Claims

A Long Island school district sued its insurers, including units of Hartford Insurance Group Inc. and Loews Corp., alleging the carriers failed to defend and indemnify the district in underlying lawsuits related to child sexual abuse claims.

The complaint, filed May 2 by the Bay Shore Union Free School District in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York, centers on the insurers’ alleged breach of commercial general liability policies in effect in the 1970s and 1980s.
