Nationwide Insurers End Sex Abuse Coverage Case Against Church

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. units are dropping a suit against a Baptist church in Virginia over insurance coverage for sexual abuse claims.

Depositors Insurance Co. and AMCO Insurance Co. filed a stipulation of dismissal with prejudice Thursday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

  • The Nationwide units sued Immanuel Baptist Church in July 2025, seeking a ruling limiting coverage for claims against the church alleging sexual abuse by a youth leader.
  • In its dismissal filing, the insurers said their claims against the church were resolved.
