Murdaugh Fraud Accomplice Denies Liability to Berkley Insurer

Cory Fleming, a former lawyer and Alex Murdaugh’s longtime friend who aided him in stealing most of a $3.8 million settlement meant for his deceased housekeeper’s family, pushed back on a W.R. Berkley Corp. insurance unit’s motion for summary judgment on its breach-of-agreement claim against him.

Fleming’s guilty plea in a criminal case and conclusions from his disbarment proceedings don’t preclude him from denying liability to Nautilus Insurance Co. for his alleged role in Murdaugh’s scheme, Fleming said in a Tuesday filing in the US District Court for the District of South Carolina.
