Murdaugh Associate Owes Nearly $4 Million in Insurance Theft Row

A former lawyer who aided Alex Murdaugh’s scheme to steal a $3.8 million insurance settlement intended for the family of his deceased housekeeper must pay nearly the same amount in damages to the insurer, a W. R. Berkley Corp. unit.

Following a three-day trial, a jury on Wednesday returned a verdict in favor of Nautilus Insurance Co. and against Cory Fleming on claims of civil conspiracy and violation of the South Carolina Unfair Trade Practices Act.
