Loews Insurance Unit Seeks to Limit Liability for Asbestos Cases

A Loews Corp. insurance unit is seeking to limit its liability for claims brought by workers and family members who said they were exposed to asbestos from a nickel refinery in Louisiana dating back to the 1970s.

Multiple asbestos exposure claims from the facility in Braithwaite, La., constitute a single “occurrence” under liability policies issued to Amax Inc., Continental Insurance Co. said in a complaint filed Jan. 2 in the US District Court for the District of Connecticut.
