Lloyd’s Underwriters Can Arbitrate Suit Over Hurricane Damage

Lloyd’s of London Underwriters can force property owners to arbitrate a breach of contract claim linked to damage from Hurricane Ida, a federal court in Louisiana ruled.

All requirements for compelled arbitration were met, according to the US District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Judge Greg Gerard Guidry ordered Wednesday that the case be closed pending the outcome of the arbitration.

Arbors on the Lake 2018 suffered significant damages in 2021 when Hurricane Ida battered the property, which was insured at the time of the natural catastrophe. Damage included, but was not limited to, 11 buildings, according to ...
