An insurer sued litigation funding companies run by a suspended former attorney in New York, alleging they carried out a scheme that inflated personal injury claims through false advertising, usurious loans disguised as advances, and control over claimants’ medical treatment and legal representation.
The defendants, including Case Cash Funding LLC, falsely advertised “non-recourse” advances while actually controlling every aspect of personal injury cases to maximize their returns, New York Marine & General Insurance Co. said in a complaint filed June 12 in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
