Liberty Mutual, Berkshire Insurer Units End Reimbursement Suit

A Liberty Mutual insurance unit agreed to end its lawsuit seeking reimbursement from a Berkshire Hathaway Inc. carrier for $23.5 million it paid after a jury verdict stemming from a personal injury case involving a mutual insured party.

Liberty Insurance Underwriters Inc. said in its December 2025 suit that Berkshire’s National Fire & Marine Insurance Co. controlled the defense of US Foods in a 2016 truck accident. The insurers stipulated a dismissal of the suit with prejudice May 15 in the US District Court for the Central District of California, and no other details were provided.
