Insurer Sues to Duck Costs in Paralympic Swimmer Sex Abuse Case

An insurance company sued the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee over legal bills in a case alleging the committee failed to protect a swimmer from sexual abuse by a team member.

Parker Egbert sued the USOPC in 2022, alleging it had allowed Robert Griswold to supervise and share a room with him despite reports of sexual abuse from other teammates, and that it failed to inform Egbert’s parents of the risk Griswold posed.

Griswold sexually assaulted Egbert starting in the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, the underlying complaint said.
