Insurer Sued Over $10 Million Youth Swim Team Sex Abuse Judgment

A Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. unit had a duty to defend a North Carolina youth swim team in an underlying sexual abuse lawsuit and it must pay a $10 million judgment to the survivor, she said in a complaint against the insurer.

Policies issued by National Casualty Co. to the Capital Area Swim Team, a USA Swimming-affiliated club, and former coach Nathan Weddle provided coverage for the abuse claims, Sydney Mizelle said in a suit filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
