Illinois School District Sued by Insurer Over Mold Case (1)

An Old Republic International Corp. insurance unit sued a school district in Illinois to avoid covering claims related to mold exposure at an elementary school that allegedly caused a student to develop a neurological condition.

In its lawsuit filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, BITCO General Insurance Corp. said its policy excludes coverage for injuries caused by mold or bacteria exposure.

The underlying complaint alleges that, in 2024, Red Bud Community Unit School District 132 discovered problems with the HVAC system at the elementary school that created conditions for mold growth. Testing reportedly ...
