Hartford Takes Aim at Discord Over Social Media Litigation Costs

Two Hartford Insurance Group Inc. units are suing Discord Inc. over litigation alleging the social media company failed to warn about and prevent harm to minors who used its online messaging platform, following a similar suit from Hartford against Meta Platforms Inc.

Various liability policies issued to Discord didn’t afford coverage for its defense costs in underlying lawsuits brought by school districts and local governments because, among other reasons, the suits didn’t seek damages “because of bodily injury,” a prerequisite for coverage, Hartford said in a complaint filed in the Delaware Superior Court.
