Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co. asked to appeal a bankruptcy court ruling that denied the insurer standing to dispute clergy sex abuse claims filed against a New York Catholic diocese, saying it violates recent US Supreme Court precedent.
The US Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York should grant Hartford the right for immediate appeal over its standing as a “party in interest” to challenge the viability of claims in the Chapter 11 case for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, the insurer said in a filing Tuesday.
