Hartford Insurance Unit Sues Over Illinois Genetic Privacy Case

A Hartford Insurance Group Inc. unit is seeking a ruling that it has no duty to defend a farm product retailer accused of violating Illinois’ Genetic Information Privacy Act.

The underlying proposed class action alleged Buchheit Enterprises Inc. required prospective employees to disclose family medical history, including genetic information, as part of pre-employment physicals.

But the claims don’t trigger coverage under liability policies issued to Buchheit, Hartford Underwriters Insurance Co. said in a lawsuit filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Central District of Illinois.
