Hartford Insurance Unit Fights ‘Related Claims’ Drug Test Ruling

A Hartford Insurance Group Inc. unit urged a federal appeals court to find that it shouldn’t have to provide coverage for a lawsuit against a drug testing company that allegedly had poor quality control that led to false positives.

The definition of “related claims” under a 2021 policy between a Loews Corp. insurer and Avertest LLC said that “any” common fact could relate claims logically and causally, Jonathan Freiman of Wiggin & Dana LLP for Navigators Specialty Insurance Co. said during Thursday oral arguments in the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
