Godiva’s Insurers Must Pay Made-in-Belgium False Ads Settlement

Godiva Chocolatier Inc. won a ruling to have its insurers pay for a $10.3 million false advertising settlement with consumers who sued after finding its chocolates weren’t made in Belgium as touted in ads.

Godiva had a primary $10 million director and officer insurance policy from Endurance American Insurance Co., a unit of Sompo Holdings Inc. Godiva also had a $10 million secondary, excess D&O policy from National Union Fire Insurance Co., a unit of AIG Inc. D&O policies cover litigation against companies and their executives.
