Geico Evades Jury Trial in Customers’ Overcharge Class Action

Geico Corp. convinced a judge to let a class action over pandemic car insurance pricing proceed without a jury trial.

Geico customers’ unfair business practice allegation “does not trigger a constitutional right to a jury trial,” US District Judge Beth Labson Freeman of the Northern District of California said Monday in rejecting their jury-trial request.

Geico, a Berkshire Hathaway Inc. subsidiary, moved to strike jury demand last November after 2 million customers won class action certification.
