Technology companies and associations widely embrace a new proposal to set a national data privacy standard, while questioning some aspects and voicing skepticism a deeply divided Congress will pass it.

“Tech is definitely not standing in the way. We want to see this bill get refined and get moved and put to law,” said Carl Holshouser, executive vice president of TechNet, whose members include Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc.‘s Google, as well as smaller companies such as Etsy Inc. and Instacart.
