A former employee is suing two Erie Insurance Co. units, alleging the companies failed to protect employees’ and customers’ personal information in a data breach that was publicly disclosed this month.
The would-be class complaint alleges the defendants had a duty to safeguard plaintiffs’ personal information like names, Social Security numbers, and financial account details, but they failed to implement adequate security measures, allowing a ransomware group to access the information network around June 7. Some of its systems have been offline since the breach.
