Dental Office Loses Covid Insurance Row in Washington High Court

A dental office failed in its bid to get insurance coverage for pandemic-related financial losses, after the Washington Supreme Court found the business incurred no property coverage that warrants a payout.

The Olympia, Wash.-based court became the fifth state high court siding with insurers, adding to a vast majority of court rulings nationwide that are denying Covid insurance coverage unless businesses can demonstrate actual property harm.

Concluding that government-ordered closures would cause property damage is “unreasonable,” the Washington Supreme Court ruled Thursday, siding with the insurer, Mutual of Enumclaw.
