Chubb Unit Sues Crock-Pot Maker Over Exploding Cooker Claims

A Chubb Ltd. unit is suing the company that makes Crock-Pot pressure cookers, seeking to limit insurance coverage for product liability claims over cookers that exploded and injured consumers.

Umbrella liability insurance policies issued to Newell Brands Inc.—naming its subsidiary Sunbeam Products Inc. as an additional insured party—only afford coverage in excess of other applicable insurance policies and once certain retentions have been exhausted, Ace Property & Casualty Insurance Co. said in a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
