Chubb Says NY Archdiocese Ran Its Own Secret Campaign on Insurer

Chubb Ltd. is accusing the Archdiocese of New York of mounting a covert operation to gain the upper hand in a coverage dispute over sexual abuse claims, just weeks after the church accused the insurance giant of orchestrating its own “shadow campaign.”

Chubb in a heavily redacted court filing Tuesday pointed to new evidence obtained through discovery indicating the archdiocese had backed a survivor advocacy group that lobbied against the insurer, and that the church knew about and covered up widespread sexual abuse.
