Chubb, Hartford Units Clash Over ‘Other Insurance’ Provision

A Missouri federal court skipped a key step analyzing how two insurers’ policies should cover a wrongful death settlement over a 2020 traffic accident, a Chubb Ltd. unit told a federal appellate panel.

Chubb Custom Insurance Co. and a Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. unit both issued insurance policies to the investment company whose employee struck and killed a motorcycle driver, prompting the underlying suit and ensuing settlement. Hartford Fire Insurance Co., which issued a commercial automobile policy to the driver’s employer, sued Chubb, which covered the firm under an excess policy.
