California Diocese Abuse Insurance Case Sent Back to Lower Court

A California federal judge must reconsider her ruling that capped insurance coverage for a Catholic diocese’s settlement with a survivor who alleged sexual abuse.

A separate Ninth Circuit ruling last month holding that aggregate limits in an American International Group Inc. unit’s policies were ambiguous means the district judge must take a second look at the diocese case, a panel of judges from the appeals court said in an unpublished opinion Friday.
