California Considers Sweeping Overhaul of Insurance Privacy Law

The California Department of Insurance wants to create one of the nation’s most stringent data privacy frameworks for the more than 1,600 carriers it regulates.

Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara is backing legislation (SB 354) that would strengthen the state’s insurance privacy law and in some areas exceed the California Consumer Privacy Act, the landmark 2018 law that is one of the nation’s strongest data privacy measures.
